From the NJEA:
“We’ve gotten some emails in the wake of the all-member email that went out on the tenure reform bill, and probably the most common question comes from currently nontenured members.
They want to know if they have to work a fourth year in order to get tenure, and the answer is “no.” Currently nontenured members are “grandfathered” under the old law with respect to the three years needed to gain tenure. Those hired after the bill becomes law (and please note that it has NOT yet been signed by the governor) would have to work for four years before earning tenure status.
Other provisions of the legislation — including hearing dismissal cases before arbitrators rather than administrative law judges — would apply to all members once the bill is signed into law.”
