The NJEA Teacher’s Convention is being held this Thursday and Friday in Atlantic City and we hope you are planning on attending. Many new features are set to premier include a revamped exhibit floor featuring Main Street NJEA, showcasing all the many programs that NJEA offers to its members, and the ESP Pavilion which offers materials and information designed specifically to meet the needs of educational support professionals.
There are more than 300 professional development seminars, workshops, and programs to help teachers and educational support professionals hone their skills and stay current in their fields. Teacher evaluation expert Charlotte Danielson will offer a featured presentation on how to implement her evaluation model. In addition to the seminars and programs, attendees will take advantage of the Convention Center’s huge exhibit area, featuring more than 700 vendors and exhibitors.
Specific highlights include:
Prudential has announced that it will hold an open enrollment for the NJEA-sponsored disability insurance program at the NJEA Convention next week. Any member who wishes to take advantage of this opportunity must physically visit the Prudential booth (number 2040 in the Sponsored Vendor area). Special applications will be provided for this limited open enrollment with Prudential reps writing the member’s name on each application. Completed applications may be immediately handed in or can be mailed back within 60 days to be considered part of this open enrollment.
Optical Academy will have a complete optical shop set up at booth 1841 at the NJEA Convention. Members are encouraged to make appointments at https://www.optical-academy.com/calendar/ by clicking on the day of their choice. The special NJEA pricing will apply to everyone who visits their booth.
Be sure to scan your badges at each area of the convention floor to enter the many giveaways. At the Sponsored Vendor area, there will be two hefty prizes. On Thursday, a gift basket from Premium Outlets with over $1,000 in merchandise and gift cards will be given away. On
Friday, a week fly-drive vacation in California will be awarded by Bravo Tours.
If you have not received your convention badge or card, you may print one out by signing in to the membership section of the njea.org website. The instructions to do so are the same as logging into our own njutea.com website and we have attached those instructions for your convenience.
On Thursday of the convention there will be two receptions we would like to make you aware of. The first is the Union County Education Association Reception in the Crown Ballroom at 2 Convention Boulevard from 12-2pm. Food will be served.
The second one is our very own UTEA reception, also on Thursday, from 4-7pm at The Irish Pub located right off the boardwalk @ St. James Avenue. All members and their guests are invited to attend. Food will be served. We encourage everyone from our association who is making
the trip down to stop by and say hello.
Lastly, there was a typo in our last email concerning the toll free number to call if you have trouble logging into Teachscape in order to register for Tuesday’s professional development courses. The correct number is 1-888-479-7600 .
